Jose Armijo is an accomplished Photojournalist and highly skilled editor with over 25 years of experience covering news for CNN. Throughout his career, he has earned nine accolades from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and received four prestigious journalism awards, including the Alfred I. DuPont and George Foster Peabody awards.
His portfolio encompasses a diverse range of events, including documenting hurricanes in the Bahamas and Florida, covering protests following George Floyd's death, capturing the migrants' caravan, and reporting from the frontlines of the war in Ukraine. He has also been on the ground during Hurricanes Irma and Maria in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Presidential Elections, and covers both Democratic and Republican Conventions every four years.
Jose’s journalistic experience extends to significant global crises, including the Ukraine crisis in 2014, the conflict between Syrian Kurds and Islamic State militants in Kobani on the Turkey-Syria border, and the 50-day war between Hamas and Israel in Gaza in 2014.
He also covered major events such as the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, the leadership of Chavez in Venezuela until his passing in 2013, the rescue of the 33 Chilean miners, the devastating earthquake in Haiti, and the aftermath of Gulf War II in Baghdad. In 2009, he embedded with the U.S. Army in Kandahar, Afghanistan, among other noteworthy assignments.
